Patch Alexander Donaghy’s work explores personal identity and transgendered experience. In much of their recent work, the importance of chain link is something that has become a reoccurring reference in their practice, it marks space and delineates “mine + yours” it creates a separation between private + public, but it also prevents access to spaces deemed dangerous, it acts as a barrier to the urban spaces that aren’t meant to be accessed. To put an emphasis on the significance of the types of chain link referenced it’s important to note that the artist is not intending to depict images of incarceration as a trans + queer bodied artist they can only put personal experience and the prison system is not one they have encountered first hand, however through their identity the concept of separation is one that resonates, especially in the urban sphere where they spend the majority of their time.

Patch Alexander Donaghy is a multidisciplinary Maker from Vancouver, Canada.
